One of the problems experienced when playing Killer Katanas was moving the troops around. I've therefore invested in a relatively small number of movement trays (I can hear Russ chuckling as I once said they were a waste of money!). I hold my hand up - they will prove very useful.
I went for a mixed set to allow infantry and cavalry to operate in 2 ranks (as Killer Katanas rules generally require this). But they looked a bit 'wooden' so I decided to spruce them up and make them look a tad more realistic - especially when troop numbers fall (which happens very quickly in Killer Katanas 2!

| Movement trays for cavalry and infantry |
The spruce-up was in the form of some battle mat I'd ordered (and never used) years ago.

Movement trays with grassy undertones!

The idea is that as bases are lost, the space they reveal is a grassy area (and so blends in a bit better with the table underneath). I was going to 'grass over' the wooden bits as well but I'll see how they do on the table first!

| Normans doubling as samurai |
Sods Law, I left the samurai back at the branch (so I would have them to hand for the next KK2 battle) so my 6mm Baccus Normans had to step in to model the new trays. They have magnets on the bottom so they overhang the tray edge a bit.

What a clever idea using the mat inside????
ReplyDeleteI've never used movement trays but these look really good. We may have to twist Posties arm a bit and give movement trays a try out in our next game!
ReplyDeleteI never realised you were back posting on the blog!
ReplyDeleteNice one Phil
and yes you did say the trays were a waste of money :)
I am sorely tempted to buy into this period but will have to be patient and finish my Greek & Persian armies first....
